Hello.
I write the NQT blog here and I made a comment about the mistakes a teacher made.
I have been asked to expand on them - please feel free to add comments in the box below.
Typical mistakes , talking over the top of pupils , not waiting for quiet ,
making sweeping statements about behaviour ( e.g you are all too noisy )
rather than targeting individuals and using names, not recognising the
pupils who were ready to learn, making it a negative noisey environment -
not going up to the pupils and speaking to them individually about their
behaviour but shouting at the front of class which can and did in this case
invite confrontation. Someone once told me the way to classsroom manage is
to sing praises
loudly and tell off quietly, which is does make for a more
positive environment. He also didn't check instructions were clear before
pupils started task , did not have a learning objective on the board
and appeared to have no structure or planning to his lesson -no
starter
, no plenary , no reference to GCSE levels , no targets , no formative
assessment comments etc. not something I would ever have got away with, but
incidently the teacher I
was refering to is the head of the department, but
only been at the school for two years all the others had ten years plus!
What mistakes can you think of?
